HungaroControl may manage traffic in the upper airspace over Kosovo

At a press conference held on 19 June 2012 in the Ministry of National Development in Budapest, NATO was reported to have selected Hungary as the successful applicant for re-opening the upper airspace over Kosovo and restart air traffic. HungaroControl Zrt. may be assigned the duty from spring 2013 if all the required conditions are met, said Zsolt Németh, Parliamentary Minister of State of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Since 2003 NATO has been seeking a technical solution for opening the upper airspace over Kosovo to the international air traffic, he added.

Successful Tender for Solar Collectors by the Ministry of National Development

The total amount requested in the applications submitted for the sub-programme to support the establishment of solar collector systems covers the HUF 2.97 billion available for this purpose under the New Széchenyi Plan Green Investment Scheme. Once the deadline extended to 15 May 2012 was over, the Ministry of National Development closed the scheme. Altogether 5,686 applications were received, more than 2,300 of which have been assessed favourably up to now. Evaluation of the remaining applications is in progress.

Minister of State for Climate Change and Energy Pál Kovács and Deputy Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency Denis Flory opened an exhibition about the rich and variegated fauna and flora of Paks and the environment-friendly operation and development opportunities of the Paks Nuclear Power Plant on 7 May 2012 in the Central Reception Hall of the United Nation’s Office in Vienna. The exhibition jointly organised by Hungary’s Permanent Mission to the UN, the Ministry of National Development and the MVM Group will be open up to 18 May 2012.

Lorries to pay road toll in a new system from next year

On its commencement planned for the summer of 2013, lorries will mandatorily join the system of electronic road toll charged on the basis of the distance travelled. Simultaneously with adoption, measures will be taken to offset public road forwarders’ increasing burdens. Passenger cars and buses will remain subject to the current Eurovignette (E-vignette) system. Conversion will be voluntary for these vehicles at the earliest half a year after adoption of the new system. Thus, ad-hoc users may make considerable savings compared to the E-vignette system. Those who regularly travel long distances will be allowed to capitalise on flat rate.

Ultra broad band between Geneva and Budapest

One of the world’s state-of-the-art IT systems having the highest data transmission capacity may be implemented in Budapest Minister of Development Zsuzsanna Németh announced during the execution of an agreement between the Geneva-based European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) and Wigner Research Centre for Physics of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences on 4 May, 2012 in Budapest.

Alternative fuelled vehicles constructed by Hungarian university teams were presented on 23 April, 2012 in the driving technology centre of Hungaroring. The apparatuses that were available for on-site testing will compete at several international competitions in the near future. The Ministry of National Development will of to promote the engineering students' successful participation. A separate project office was set up in order to promote and coordinate higher education workshops.

Solar collector tender open for another one and a half month

The extended submission deadline for the tender entitled "Sub-programme for the establishment of solar collector systems facilitating the use of renewable energy carriers, generating residential hot water and providing booster heating" published at the beginning of October 2011 under the New Széchenyi Plan Green Investment Scheme in the amount of 2.97 billion is 15 May 2012. The extension of participation is justified by the spectacular vivacity of interest on part of tenderers in recent weeks.

Aviation safety revision may justify significant improvement

The International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO), the organisation of the United Nations specialised in air transport has carried out an overall aviation safety audit in Hungary between 26 and 30 March 2012. According to the audit results, significant improvement is experienced in the field of regulatory, supervisory, training and operational structures and authoritative procedures since the last inspection in 2008.
