Sándor Fazekas has launched the social debate on farm and forestry land, and on the draft of the new legislation on family run farms with the involvement of the National Association of Hungarian Farmer's Circles and Farmers' Co-operatives (MAGOSZ) and the Civic Association of Smallholders (KPE).
On Friday, the National Park, which extends over a large area between three major rivers, was part of the series of visits during the course of which Minister for Rural Development Sándor Fazekas, also responsible for environmental affairs, is making personal visits to Hungary's protected areas of natural value.
"The Hungarian Agrarian Bank may come into existence within the foreseeable future as a result of the decision brought at the Government's Wednesday session" – Minister for Rural Development Sándor Fazekas told the MTI following the cabinet meeting.
Parliament voted on Monday to adopt the Hungaricum Act with a consensus between the four major parties by 304 votes for and with only five abstentions from the LMP. According to the definition of the Act, a Hungaricum denotes a value worthy of emphasis that represents the highest quality of Hungarian product with its characteristically Hungarian attributes, uniqueness, special nature and quality.
The government has adopted the Ministry of Rural Development's proposal on illegal land purchasing. The Minister of Rural Development promised swift and effective action regarding so-called pocket contracts.
At the Government spokesperson's press conference on Thursday, Sándor Fazekas stated that the Government had declared war on speculators: they have formed a committee to filter out suspect land purchase contracts.
"In 2011, Hungarian exports to Serbia increased by 38 percent compared to the previous year, exceeding 50 million Euros, while at the same time imports from our southern neighbour grew by 50 percent" – said State Secretary for Agricultural Economy György Czerván at the Serbian-Hungarian Economic Summit in Kalocsa.

26 Hungarian companies brought home 142 medals, including 18 gold, from the Destillata International Fruit Sprits Competition, the largest competition of its kind in Central Europe, held in Tyrol, Austria. The awards from the competition, held in March, were presented to Hungarian producers and distillers in Budapest by Wolfgang Lukas, Managing Director of Destillata, State Secretary for Rural Development Zsolt V. Németh, and Mrs. Gábor Panyik, President of the Hungarian Pálinka Distillers' Guild Association.
"The Government is treating agriculture as an important spring-board", stressed András Giró-Szász at the press conference on Wednesday at which he and Minister for Rural Development Sándor Fazekas jointly announced that the Government had passed the proposal regarding the National Rural Strategy.
Brussels has so for requested additional information on three occasions regarding the support paid by the Hungarian Government to agricultural businesses affected by the red mud disaster. The latest queries arrived in early March.
