Szőreg roses are famous among gardeners and horticulturalists, and 98 percent of the roses cultivated in Hungary come from this area, the country's only rose-producing region. The nationally protected plant will also receive EU protected status in the very near future under the name Szőreg Rosebush. The 13th Szőreg Rose Festival was opened on June 23 by Minister for Rural Development Sándor Fazekas in the Csongrád County town.
Hungary has previously undertaken to conform to EU directive regulations on the modernisation of the cages of laying hens by July 31, 2012. Today's warning from Brussels in no way effects this commitment.

There are great opportunities in the development of Hungarian-Russian agricultural relations, says State Secretary for Rural Development Gyula Budai, who held discussion with Russian Deputy Minister of Agriculture Alexander Chernogorov on Wednesday in Moscow.

The European Commission has adopted the 222-item list that gathers together those health-related informative statements that may be found on food packaging. In future, manufacturers may only include scientifically substantiated definitions and claims on food products.
