Sándor Fazekas Attends the Szőreg Rose Festival

Szőreg roses are famous among gardeners and horticulturalists, and 98 percent of the roses cultivated in Hungary come from this area, the country's only rose-producing region. The nationally protected plant will also receive EU protected status in the very near future under the name Szőreg Rosebush. The 13th Szőreg Rose Festival was opened on June 23 by Minister for Rural Development Sándor Fazekas in the Csongrád County town.
Hungary to Complete the Modernisation of Battery Cages within deadline

Hungary has previously undertaken to conform to EU directive regulations on the modernisation of the cages of laying hens by July 31, 2012. Today's warning from Brussels in no way effects this commitment.
Sándor Fazekas Holds Meeting with Brazilian Minister of Agriculture

Sándor Fazekas held a successful meeting with the Brazilian Minister of Agriculture ahead of the Rio + 20 summit. Of all the Ministers of Agriculture, Mendes Ribeiro Filho received only his Hungarian counterpart for bilateral talks, on which they discussed opportunities for cooperation between the two countries.
Working Together for a Clean Environment

This year's TeSzedd! ("YouPickIt!") drive was once again successful and effective, with participants collecting several thousand tons of rubbish. Within the framework of the Working Together for a Cleaner Hungary movement, volunteers from all over the country put on their gloves to make the environment more beautiful and cleaner. Hungary's largest rubbish collection initiative took place in 700 settlements and at over 1500 sites. Experience has shown that in places where the TeSzedd! volunteers collected rubbish last year, there was less waste this year.

2012 is the International Year of Cooperatives

Only Scientifically Substantiated, Health-related Statements may be included on Food Labels

The European Commission has adopted the 222-item list that gathers together those health-related informative statements that may be found on food packaging. In future, manufacturers may only include scientifically substantiated definitions and claims on food products.
Gyula Budai holds discussions in the Russian Federation

Gyula Budai, Parliamentary State Secretary of the Ministry of Rural Development, the Ministry's State Secretary for Public Administration Imre Farkas, and Deputy State Secretary of the Ministry of Rural Development for Parliamentary, Social and International Relations Katalin Tóth will be holding talks on the state of Russian-Hungarian co-operation in agriculture between May 29 and June 1 in the Russian Federation.
