Work on recovery, reconstruction and the mitigation of environmental damages following the red sludge disaster cost the state a total of 38 billion forints – over 130 million Euros.
"Hungary and Germany would both like funding for planting grapevines within the European Union to remain unaltered after 2015", said State Secretary of the Ministry of Rural Development Gyula Budai in Szekszárd, where he held a meeting with the Parliamentary State Secretary of the German Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Consumer Protection on the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP).
The Ministry of Rural Development is developing a food chain safety strategy. The objective of the document is to determine the measures and instruments through which the protection of the health of consumers may continue to be most effectively realised.
At the meeting of the Agriculture and Fisheries Council in Brussels, Minister for Rural Development Sándor Fazekas requested that emergency aid be transferred from the European Union Solidarity Fund for the mitigation of drought damage. The Minister also proposed the simplification and if possible temporary waiving of agricultural-environmental regulations, in addition to suggesting that 80 percent of 2013 direct funding should be payable in advance instead of the current 50 percent.

Croatia support Hungary's ideas with relation to the reform of the European Union's Common Agricultural Policy (CAP). State Secretary for Rural Development Zsolt V. Németh met with Croatian Deputy Minister for Rural Development, EU and International Cooperation Luka Čuljak at the informal meeting of the Standing Working Group of European Ministers of Agriculture from South Eastern Europe. Croatia is scheduled to become a member of the European Union on July 1, 2013.
A two-year cooperation agreement has been signed by President of the Hungarian Agricultural and Rural Development Agency (MVH) Péter Palkovics and Saulius Silickas, Director of the Lithuanian National Paying Agency during the 32nd conference of Agricultural Paying Agencies organised within the framework of Cyprus's presidency of the EU, the MVH told Hungarian news agency MTI on Monday.
The Ministry of Rural Development invited several foreign diplomats accredited to Hungary to the Vidék Mustra rural agricultural producers' show market on Kossuth Square. Minster for Rural Development Sándor Fazekas and State Secretary Gyula Budai greeted the guests at the event. Ambassadors and diplomats from fifteen countries attended the first such market show, which will be followed by several similar presentations for other diplomatic representatives.
