Parliamentary Secretary of the Latvian Ministry of Agriculture Edvards Smiltēns and Parliamentary State Secretary Gyula Budai held talks in Budapest this week at the Ministry of Rural Development. The aim of Monday's talks was to enable the Hungarian party to present details on the concept and system of instruments of the proposed new Act on the trade of agricultural and forestry land to Latvian experts.
"We will protect farmers' incomes", declared Minister for Rural Development Sándor Fazekas in a statement to Hungarian news agency MTI and EU portal BruxInfo in Brussels on Wednesday, after having taken part in a meeting between the Agriculture Ministers of the EU member states.
The Ministry for National Development signed an agreement with the Leipzig-based European Energy Exchange (EEX) on 28 November, based on which the auction of Hungary’s EUA units in the second trading period of the EU Emissions Trading System (EU ETS) may now be launched.
The Hungarian Parliament has once again passed the Waste Management Act. This was required, because President of the Republic János Áder sent the draft of the new Act back to Parliament for reconsideration at the end of October.
"EU member states with significant agriculture must cooperate and act jointly to protect the interests of the agricultural sector", Parliamentary State Secretary of the Ministry of Rural Development Gyula Budai told Hungarian news agency MTI on Wednesday in Berlin.
"It would be unacceptable to Hungary if the sum available for agricultural funding within the European Union's next seven-year Multiannual Financial Framework were to decrease", Parliamentary State Secretary of the Ministry of Rural Development told Hungarian news agency MTI on Tuesday in Berlin.
"From now on, the Coca-Cola bottling plant in Dunaharaszti will produce its apple juice using Hungarian apples instead of imported ones", announced the Minister for Rural Development in Dunaharaszti, while the first tanker containing apple concentrate arrived at the plant from Szabolcs, Hungary's main apple-producing region.
Gyula Budai, Parliamentary State Secretary of the Ministry of Rural Development, will be continuing and taking part in bilateral talks on November 20-21 at the Hungarian Harvest event organised by the Hungarian Embassy in Berlin.
State Secretary for Rural Development Zsolt V. Németh has reported to the Parliament's European Affair Committee on rural development funding and support. The State Secretary indicated that "rural development is also a decisive element in the draft of the European Union's Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) for the period after 2013."
"Hungary was among the first to say no to including genetically modified organisms (GMOs) in agricultural production, and this situation has not changed: the country must remain GMO-free", said the Parliamentary State Secretary of the Ministry of Rural Development Gyula Budai on Wednesday in Gödöllő.
