Food Inspectors Monitor Markets, Shopping Centres and Warehouses

"The National Food Chain Safety Office (NÉBIH) has performed 3700 inspections and issues HUF 4.3 million in fines during the first phase of winter food monitoring activities. Inspections will continue until the end of December", announced State Secretary for Food Chain Supervision and Agricultural Economy of the Ministry of Rural Development Endre Kardeván on Monday in Budapest. The goal of the expanded monitoring is to ensure that only high quality products that conform to food safety standards reach the consumer's shopping basket even during the peak Christmas season.
Stringent Checks on Pangasius Fish Products

Minister for Rural Development Sándor Fazekas ordered the increased monitoring of Pangasius fish products on 19 December 2012. The Minister is asking consumers to be extra cautious about what food products they purchase during the Christmas period.

Experts from countries in Central-Eastern Europe and Central Asia are meeting at the Ministry of Rural Development on December 11-13 to discuss the implementation of the Nagoya Protocol on genetic resources. Rural Adventure Chosen as Europe's Best Communications Programme

The Vidék Kaland ("Rural Adventure") Programme has won the competition for communications programmes related to the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) launched by the European Commission's Directorate-General for Agriculture and Rural Development (DG-AGRI) to mark the 50th anniversary of the existence of the CAP. The popular programme was launched in 2011by the Hungarian Association of Young Farmers (AGRYA). Communiqué.

The Government is Urging Enterprises to Recycle

"600 tons of plastic waster are generated in Hungary each year, of which 6 0tons are PET bottles", the Ministry of Rural Development's State Secretary for Environmental Affairs stated in Mezőfalva, at the inauguration of a plastic recycling plant. Zoltán Illés stressed, that "the remaining 540 tons should also be recycled, and so the Government is calling on enterprises that deal in waste management to recycle, and on the public to selectively collect their household waste".
Model Project to increase Hungarian Fish Consumption Launched

Németh signed a cooperation agreement on Thursday in Békéscsaba regarding the development of a model project for the promotion of fish consumption in Hungary, and the increasing of productivity and the quality of processing.
