Fifty Percent Increase in Fruit and Vegetable Exports Planned

"Fruit and vegetable exports, which are currently at 800-850 thousand tons-a-year may be increased to 1.2 million tons/year over the coming years. This is one of the most important goals of the new agriculture strategy, which should be published during the first half of the year", Deputy Secretary of State for Agricultural Economy of the Ministry of Rural Development Zsolt Feldman told Hungarian news agency MTI at the Fruit Logistica exhibition in Berlin.

The Gajdos Winery's 2009 Cabernet Franc Selection wine has won a grand gold medal at the MUNDUS VINI BioFach International Organic Wine Awards in Germany. The Gajdos Winery operates in Egerszalók, within the Eger wine region. The winery produced organically certified wines using exclusively ecologically cultivated grapes.

Tata wins Hungarian Landscape Award

Minister for Rural Development Sándor Fazekas presented the accolade to the winner of the Hungarian Landscape Award competition, the Tata-based Által Brook Catchment Area Restoration and Development Association, at a ceremony in Tata on Friday. Second prize was awarded to Szentes local authority for its programme to restore the wildlife of the Kurca watercourse.

Szentkirályi to Export Mineral Water to Saudi Arabia

31st Agromash Expo Opens in Budapest

The 31st Agromash agricultural machine exhibition and trade fair opened on Wednesday in Budapest at the exhibition centre in Kőbánya. At the opening ceremony, Minister for Rural Development Sándor Fazekas stated that the current exhibition is the largest ever held, with 200 exhibitors on over 32 thousand square metres.

Codex Alimentarius Select Committee to Meet in Budapest

The FAO/WHO Codex Committee on Methods of Analysis and Sampling (CCMAS), the Codex Alimentarius Commission's select committee, will be meeting in Budapest on March 4-8, 2013. Experts representing over 50 countries are expected to take part at the event, and will be elaborating international documents that determine methods of food sampling and analysis.

According to State Secretary for Agricultural Economy György Czerván, it is a great success for Hungarian agricultural diplomacy that during the course of comprehensive negotiations with Canada in relation to an economic and trade treaty we succeeded in having sweet corn included on the list of so-called "sensitive products", meaning this product will enjoy added protection in future.
