State Secretary heading the Prime Minister’s Office János Lázár has concluded an agreement with the Jewish Heritage of Hungary Public Endowment and the Conference on Jewish Material Claims Against Germany so that Holocaust survivors of Hungarian origin living in foreign countries may receive compensation as soon as possible.
Prime Minister Viktor Orbán regards the approval of the report about the state of fundamental rights in Hungary submitted by rapporteur Rui Tavares as an operation of the European left, based partly on the idea that the Hungarian Fundamental Law is not a liberal constitution. He also noted on public Kossuth radio’s 180 minutes that the wage increase for teachers is a certainty.
The Prime Minister called the report on the situation of fundamental rights approved by the European Parliament on Wednesday unjust and said that business lobby interests lie behind the measures taken against Hungary.
Hiking tourism providing low-income families with holiday opportunities is in need of renovated tourist houses, a modern sign system and up-to-date facilities in order to catch up with Austrian standards, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán said in a speech in Dobogókő, the highest point of the Northern Hungarian Visegrád Hills and a favoured tourist destination, after signing an agreement with the President of the Hungarian Association of Hikers (MTSZ).
The Prime Minister addresses Thursday afternoon’s plenary session in Parliament in a pre-agenda speech entitled „On the unjust decision of the European Parliament”.
The Tavares report seriously infringes on and limits the independence of Hungary, Prime Minister Orbán stated at a press conference, adding that on Thursday Parliament is expected to vote on a resolution in response to the European Parliament’s decision.
The Economy Ministry is assessing various options for increasing wages in the public sector, Government Spokesperson András Giró-Szász said.
In a debate held in the European Parliament today in Strasbourg, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán called the report drafted on the state of fundamental rights in Hungary by rapporteur Rui Tavares unjust.
Relations between Hungary and Slovakia are based on political and personal trust, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán stated following the summit of Hungarian and Slovak government officials organised in Budapest. Slovak Head of Government Robert Fico envisaged success for Hungary and Slovakia and stressed the importance of a closer Central European cooperation.
“No country can be strong without a respectable army,” Prime Minister Orbán stated following his meeting with NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen.
