Threats emanating from cyberspace cause serious security concerns for many EU countries. In accordance with the Report on the Implementation of the European Security Strategy Ministry of Defence of the Hungarian Republic will host an international expert conference on cyber security.

The Hungarian troops returning from HDF KAIA SOG (Hungarian Defence Forces Staff Officer Group at Kaia International Airport) were welcomed at HDF 59th Szentgyörgyi Dezső Air Base, in Kecskemét. At the welcome home ceremony Minister of Defence Csaba Hende said: ’’ The six-month job of the Hungarian contingent has been highly evaluated by the NATO ISAF Command.”

European Defence Agency (EDA) held a high-level Conference in Budapest on European Technology non-Dependence (ETnD) on the 13-14 April under the Hungarian EU Presidency. A delegation of Ohio National Guard members headed by Darla L. Stencavage, Assistant of Military Attaché of the United States visited the HDF Eastern Hungarian Recruitment Command at the end of March. The purpose of the visit was to compare the American and the Hungarian military recruitment system.
“Multinational cooperation has an increasing role in capability development. Joint effort may generate significant capabilities unattainable by national resources.” Róbert Kádár, Deputy Head of Armament and Quartermaster Office said in his opening remarks at the conference held at Stefánia Palace Cultural Centre, Budapest on 5 April.
The conference on European small and medium sized enterprises in the defence sector will be organized by the Ministry of Defence and the Ministry of National Economy. The EU Presidency event will be held at Stefánia Palace Cultural Centre, Budapest on April 5.
The Hungarian Government has extended the mandates of HDF contingents serving in Afghanistan. The PRT (Provincial Reconstruction Team), the AMT (Air Mentor Team) and the OMLT (Operational Mentor and Liaison Team) will make further contributions to help the Central Asian country stand on its own feet as soon as possible.
Five hundred soldiers from the PRT (Provincial Reconstruction Team), KFOR contingent and ISAF (International Assistance Security Force) returned from a six-month deployment on March 25. The troops were welcomed home by Minister of Defence Dr Csaba Hende, General Dr Tibor Benkő, Chief of the Defence Staff of the Hungarian Defence Forces and Mayor of Hódmezővásárhely Dr János Lázár.

Soviet-made cluster bombs were destructed at Erdőkertes demolition range on 24 March. The explosion was watched by Brussels-based PMG diplomats, OSCE (Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe) and UN observers as well as military attachés accredited to Budapest.
The informal meeting of Brussels-based PMG diplomats will be hosted by the Ministry of Defence in Budapest between 23 and 25 March.
Besides their informal talks they will observe the destruction of cluster munitions in Erdőkertes.
