Minister of Defence held talks in Paris

Minister of Defence Dr Csaba Hende has paid an official visit to Paris to have talks with the Minister of Defence of France, Alain Juppé. During the meeting priorities of the Hungarian EU Presidency, Common Security and Defence Policy issues and bilateral military relations have been discussed.

Minister of Defence of the Hungarian Republic and Slovak Minister of Defence Lubomir Galko paid tribute to the memory of the victims crashed in Hejce five years ago. “The soldiers have made every effort to establish peace in a broken, war-ridden country,” Dr Csaba Hende said.

A Volunteer Reserve System was established in Hungary on 1 January, 2011. At fifty-seven barracks and military establishments of the HDF security guards have been replaced by reservists. The Hungarian Defence Forces have started to set up a Volunteer Reserve Force with the authorization of the Parliament.
No army without reservists

Fourteen soldiers took the oath at the barracks of HDF 5th ‘Istvan Bocskai’ Infantry Brigade on January 2. After the Changing of the Guard Ceremony the reservists took over service. The event was opened by Brigadier General Gábor Böröndi, Commander of HDF 5th Istvan Bocskai Infantry Brigade.

Dr Zoltán József Tóth, Deputy State Secretary for Legal Affairs and Administration, MoD and Major General József Kovács, Commander of HDF Joint Force Command paid a four-day visit to the Hungarian Contingent of HDF UN Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus on 9 December. The delegation was received by Rear Admiral Mario Sánchez Debernardi, Commander of UNFICYP.

A delegation headed by Administrative State Secretary Lajos Fodor visited the troops stationed in the Balkans from 14 to 17 December. During his stay Lajos Fodor had talks with Deputy Minister of Defence of Bosnia Herzegovina Mrs Marina Pendes and met the Commander of Sarajevo EUFOR HQ and the Multinational Battle Group-West.
