The 1st founding meeting of the COMEDS Military Surgeon Ad Hoc Expert Team (MSET) took place on 1-2 March 2012 in Budapest, organized by the NATO Centre of Excellence for Military Medicine (MILMED COE). The meeting was led by its chairman, Col. Dr. Teunis van Egmond.

The Pentagon is steering more money toward Eastern European allies fighting in Afghanistan, Bloomberg news agency reported on January 19, referring to a press release issued by the US Department of Defense. Hungary will receive $13.3 million in the fiscal year ending September 30, an increase from $2.87 million last year.
On Thursday, January 19 a remembrance ceremony was held on the 6th anniversary of the plane crash at Hejce, to commemorate the victims of the most serious disaster in the history of the Armed Forces of Slovakia, which occurred near the village on the border and claimed 42 lives.

On Sunday, January 15 Defence Minister Dr. Csaba Hende attended the unveiling ceremony of a World War II monument in the town of Belényes (Beius), in the south of Bihor County, Romania. The memorial commemorates those ten Hungarian soldiers (‘honvéd’, ie. ‘homeguards’), who were wounded in action at the battles around the town in 1944 and died a hero’s death in a military hospital. The ceremony was organized by the Country Youth Association, the representatives of the established churches of Belényes, and the Bihor County and Belényes organizations of the Democratic Alliance of Hungarians in Romania (DAHR).
On Wednesday, January 11 Lt.-Gen. Zoltán Orosz, the Deputy Chief of the MoD Defence Staff attended the transfer of authority ceremony of the Hungarian–Romanian–Slovak–Ukrainian TISA Multinational Engineer Battalion. At the event held in Hotel Hadik, Budapest, the Hungarian general transferred the responsibilities of the lead nation role to Lt.-Gen. Dr. Dan Ghica-Radu, the deputy chief of the general staff of the Romanian armed forces.

The soldiers of the incoming 12th rotation of the HDF Provincial Reconstruction Team (HUN PRT-12) recently mounted a culmination exercise (CULEX) to demonstrate their readiness to deploy on a mission abroad. Most of the contingent has been drawn from the HDF 5th ‘Bocskai István’ Infantry Brigade of Hódmezővásárhely.
The delegation led by the Minister of Defence Dr. Csaba Hende, which paid a five-day visit to the Hungarian military units serving in Afghanistan, arrived at the Debrecen Airport on Saturday, December 10. The Minister of Defence heard eight commander’s reports in four garrisons and seven bases, and held six staff meetings. The Minister was briefed about the security situation and tasks of our troops, and had talks with the Commander of the NATO Training Mission Afghanistan (NTM-A), with the Deputy Commander and the Hungarian Chief of Staff of ISAF Regional Command North (RC North), as well as with the Governor of Baghlan Province.
A ministerial-level delegation led by MoD Deputy State Secretary for Defence Economy Dr. Gábor Márki conducted negotiations in India between November 2 and 4 of 2011. The main goal of the visit was to hold the next session of the Hungarian–Indian Joint Military Commission with Co-chairman Shekhar Agarwal, the Secretary of Defence Production of the Indian Ministry of Defence.
The servicemembers of the HDF 34th ‘Bercsényi László’ Special Operations Forces Battalion who displayed outstanding bravery in a firefight in the theatre of war in Afghanistan received medals and recognitions in the presence of their relations on November 29 in Szolnok.
