Hungary’s recent dollar-based bond issue has proven that the country is capable of standing on its own feet, without the assistance of the International Monetary Fund, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán said on public Kossuth Rádió’s morning show “180 minutes”.
Since the Government entered office, the most intensive anti-corruption series of measures over the last 20 years has been introduced in Hungary. As the latest step in this process, the Government has included within an action plan its commitments to acts within the international framework of the Open Government Partnership. It has also laid down regulations on the system to prevent corruption in the public sphere and for a reception enforcing interests.

Hungarian farmers could expect an additional HUF 480-500 billion in direct subsidies during the EU’s next seven-year financing period, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán said on Thursday, following talks with the President of the National Association of Hungarian Farmers’ Societies (Magosz).
According to Bloomberg’s latest innovation ranking, Hungary is placed as the 26th most innovative world-wide. Regarding manufacturing industry performance, Hungary is ranked as the 16th as a result of the high share of value added as percentage of GDP in this sector (high proportion in the economy) as well as the significant share of high-tech products within manufacturing exports. In addition, as far as R&D expenditures in the percentage of GDP concerned, among the regional peers Hungary is ahead of Poland and Slovakia.
A task force for nationality affairs was set up on Thursday in Budapest at the Government’s initiative with the involvement of civil organisatios. The task force will assist the Government in the future with legislative proposals and policy advice and will also help the Government to draft its national minority policy concept.
Minister of State of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Enikő Győri discussed the issue of a sustainable social system and Hungarian experiences with relation to economic crisis management during her talks in Peru, and was informed by her partners that the government in Lima would be ready to fund scholarships for the study of Peruvian students in Hungary.
