Governmental fight against anti-Semitism

Two hundred Hungarian young people travel to Auschwitz today to participate in the 26th remembrance programme organized by the March of the Living. Tens of thousands of young people from 53 countries are to participate in the programme. Beside historical remembrance, the programme helps people focus on the socially embedded nature of prejudices and hate. The traditional Hungarian March of the Living will be held on 21 April and tens of thousands of participants are expected to take part.

At their meeting in Budapest, President of Bulgaria Rosen Plevneliev and Deputy Prime Minister Tibor Navracsics stated that it is extremely important to work much more closely together in order to achieve the objectives of Central and South-Eastern European Member States of the EU. Mr. Navracsics said that Hungary and Bulgaria are interested in a Europe in which the Central and South-Eastern European Member States are not second-class members of the community, and this is precisely why Hungary supports Bulgaria's accession to the Schengen Area.

In future the appointment of the President of the National Media and Infocommunications Authority (NMHH) will be the responsibility of the President and not the Prime Minister, who will only have the power to nominate a candidate for the post. Amendments to the Media Act adopted by Parliament on Monday also stipulate that the President of the Media Authority and members of the Media Council may not be re-appointed after the expiry of their nine-year mandates.
