Hungarian-Chinese links have moved beyond protocol and involve close friendly relations in economic and cultural cooperation, Deputy Prime Minister Tibor Navracsics stated on Wednesday.
In a speech in Parliament on Tuesday, Róbert Répássy, Minister of State at the Ministry of Public Administration and Justice, said that the main part of the legislative package related to the Fourth Amendment of the Fundamental Law includes guarantee provisions for the functioning of the courts and the Constitutional Court.
On Friday, in an address in front of a plaque at Fort Monostor in Komárom/ Komárno commemorating the forced displacement of Hungarians from Felvidék/ Southern Slovakia, Tibor Navracsics called the process a tragedy for individuals and a failure for Central Europe.
According to Deputy Prime Minister Tibor Navracsics, the letter sent by President of the European Commission José Manuel Barroso to Prime Minister Viktor Orbán regarding the fourth amendment to Hungary's Fundamental Law resembles a threat and the expression of concern without corroborating facts.
In Budapest on Friday, the Fourth Amendment to the Fundamental Law was the subject of discussions between Minister of State for Justice Róbert Répássy and a delegation from the Venice Commission. Mr. Répássy said that a number of the panel members’ questions ‘demonstrated bias.’
In 2000, the National Assembly designated 16 April as the Day of Remembrance for Hungarian Victims of the Holocaust. The first such memorial event was held in 2001. This year official Remembrance Day events will take place in Budapest at the Holocaust Memorial Center and the Danube Promenade Holocaust Memorial, and also in the cities of Hódmezővásárhely and Pécs. There will also be a memorial concert in the afternoon at Budapest’s House of Terror Museum.
The birthday of poet Attila József (11 April) is dedicated to the celebration of poetry in Hungary. On this special occasion the Hungarian Cultural Centre is hosting a special Gala Reading Night as the culmination of its "Inspired by Hungarian Poetry" project. The evening will feature readings from the anthology by some of the contributing poets themselves.
On the Inforádio show Arena on Monday, Minister of Public Administration and Justice Tibor Navracsics said that the new Fundamental Law is different from the constitution of 1989, but it is not worse. He added that in the course of introducing new constitutions in other countries it was common for there to be more amendments in the period immediately following adoption than later.
At the March of the Living remembrance event at Auschwitz on Monday, Mónika Balatoni – Minister of State for Public Diplomacy and Relations at the Ministry of Public Administration and Justice – said that ‘Remembrance is not only a duty, but also an opportunity to ensure that human life is never again allowed to become a target for groups or individuals who declare themselves to be superior.’
Deputy Prime Minister Tibor Navracsics on Monday sent an open letter to Viviane Reding, the European Commissioner in charge of justice, fundamental rights and citizenship, in response to an interview published in Hungarian daily Népszava two days ago, in which she said, among other remarks, that the Hungarian legal system should comply with EU norms.
