The Irish driver who was sentenced in Hungary for killing two children in a crash is willing to travel to Hungary to start his sentence but only with certain conditions, Justice Minister Tibor Navracsics said on Thursday. After several extensions, 12 noon on December 5 has been the deadline for Francis Ciaran Tobin to make a decision about starting his sentence in Hungary.

Austrian Minister of Justice Beatrix Karl, Slovenian State Secretary for Justice Tina Brecelj and Hungarian Minister of State for Justice Róbert Répássy held a meeting in Lendava, Slovenia on Friday. The representatives of the ministries of justice of the three countries held the already traditional meeting about current issues in judicial cooperation at the XXI Pannonian Lawyers’ Days. Péter Mihalovics, Ministerial Commissioner for the Coordination of the programme For the Future of the New Generation, recalled that the New Generation Plus Programme aims to establish a system of youth support institutions, develop a uniform communication platform for the age group and extend youth services. “I am confident that the system will be operable in the long run to coordinate the work of the public and private sectors, which will be able to reinforce each other’s work for young people and the new generation”, the Ministerial Commissioner emphasised.
