Minister of Human Resources Zoltán Balog declared in Jánoshalma that 20 000 children living in deep poverty will be supported through the recently launched Együtt egymásért ("Together for Each Other") programme. The program will be implemented using HUF 428 million in EU funding.

On February 14, a 25-person delegation led by Deputy State Secretary Mrs Erika Zupcsán Asztalos presented the Hungarian implementation of the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW) in Geneva. The members of the delegation included representatives of the legislative branch, the prosecution service, the Central Statistical Office and the Equal Treatment Authority.

More funds allocated for higher education

In 2013, the state has earmarked a further 47 billion forints to trigger PPP investments, to finance own funds required for EU projects and to settle outstanding debts towards suppliers as well as to ensure more state-funded places in higher education. Institutions can also expect extra income in view of the fact that they are entitled to admit more students than last year.

Government decides on establishment of Roma Affairs Council

At a meeting on 29 January, the Government decided on the establishment of a Roma Affairs Council, bringing the issue of social inclusion to a higher level. The main tasks of the Council will be the elaboration of proposals regarding social inclusion and Roma affairs policy strategy, and the monitoring of implementation.
