Fifty new jobs for the disabled in Csurgó

In the past three and a half years the Government has fundamentally changed the employment policy with relation to disabled people. The currently accredited organisations employ 30,500 disabled people and a further 22,655 persons have been hired by private companies thanks to the rehabilitation card, which means lower employer contributions for companies, Minister of State for Social and Family Affairs Miklós Soltész said on Tuesday at the inauguration of a new workplace employing disabled people in the southwest Hungarian town of Csurgó.

Home for the elderly in Kőkút receives solar energy system

A home for the elderly in the southwest Hungarian village of Kőkút has received a solar energy system thanks to a 22 million forint (EUR 72,000) state subsidy. Minister of State for Social and Family Affairs Miklós Soltész said at the inauguration that Government grants had made possible the renovation of several homes for the elderly in Somogy County. He said these investments contribute to offering a quality life for elderly people in need of support. The home received 88 solar panels.

Memorial building inaugurated in honour of Márton Kerecsendi-Kiss in Bicske

A memorial house was inaugurated in honour of Márton Kerecsendi-Kiss on Friday in Bicske in County Fejér. The late poet, writer and teacher operated Hungary’s first Roma school in this building from 1938.

Budapest Spring Festival opens with Uffizi Gallery exhibition

The 34th Budapest Spring Festival opened on Friday with a guest exhibition of self-portraits by Hungarian artists from Florence’s Uffizi Gallery in the Budapest History Museum (BTM). Human Resources Minister Zoltán Balog said at the opening that this year’s Festival offers twice as many performances as the previous one and state funding for the event has also been doubled.

Hungary launches targeted breast screening programs

Hungary will hold a set of targeted screening programs to draw public attention to these preventative measures, Minister of State for Health Miklós Szócska said on Saturday at a screening event in Budapest’s 18th district. Mr. Szócska said the first such screening will be the “Night of screenings” on 25 April, when many screening locations will be open until 10 p.m. or midnight, while another 35 private screening facilities will also be open until at least 10 p.m.

Hospital topping out ceremony in Baja

The Rókus Hospital in the southern Hungarian town of Baja held the topping out ceremony of its newly constructed building on Thursday, attended by Minister of State for Health Miklós Szócska. The new wing will house technological support, diagnostics, patient management and other facilities.

With the interests of children and families at the forefront, the Government has improved the quality of public education through a comprehensive renewal. It has opened rather than closed schools, and instead of laying off teachers it has introduced wage increases that have resulted in one million forints (EUR 3,200) per year in additional income for a family where both parents are teachers.
