The week-long 29th International Summer Camp for Disabled Youth opened in Balatonföldvár on Sunday. Its aim is to help dismantle invisible walls between those living with disability and the rest of society.

The International Bartók Seminar and Festival opens on 13 July in Szombathely. The Council of Europe Framework Convention on the Value of Cultural Heritage for Society adopted in Faro, Portugal in 2005 declares the individual and collective right to cultural heritage as part of universal human rights. The framework convention has been ratified by the Hungarian National Assembly by overwhelming majority.
An Equal Opportunities Programme will be one of the entry conditions for any settlement taking part in competitive domestic- and EU-financed tender schemes. For the preparation of such programmes local governments—in response to requests from them—were granted an extension to the deadline, now 1 July 2013, due to the newly accepted amendment to the Act regulating this issue. Compared to the previous formula, a new element has been installed into the system: professional help will be granted, free of charge, in the preparation of appropriate Equal Opportunities Programmes through an equal opportunities mentoring network established by the Türr István Training and Research Institute (TTRI) [Hungarian: Türr István Képző és Kutató Intézet, TKKI], which is the background institute of the State Secretariat for Social Inclusion, Ministry of Human Resources.
The Parliament has adopted a bill with 330 votes, without abstention and counter-votes guaranteeing special protection for the cultural property borrowed from abroad for exhibitions in Hungary. The law provides a kind of „diplomatic immunity” for the duration of the show, so that these objects cannot be seized during the temporary exhibition.
In its report published on Tuesday, the Venice Commission considered the Act on the Rights of Nationalities to be democratic and to serve constitutionality. In the opinion of the Commission, it is the interest of the Hungarian Government to cooperate with nationalities living in Hungary, the new Nationalities Act fulfils international minority protection expectations, yet at the same time it adapts to Hungarian local conditions as well.

On 8 June 2012, the Government of Hungary signed the Council of Europe Framework Convention on the Value of Cultural Heritage for Society (Faro, 2005). Thus, Hungary has taken a significant step in favour of the complex protection, management and preservation of cultural heritage.
Creating a more resilient health system is one of the main purposes of the Semmelweis Plan – among other subjects, that was the main topic of the workshop on using EU Structural Funds to improve institutional capacity of public authorities, which was hosted by the Health Services Management Training Centre of the Semmelweis University. Organised as part of the EU funded 'Health Gain' project, the workshop brought together participants from the UK, Romania, Bulgaria, Serbia, Lithuania and Hungary to explore the opportunities to improve population’s health across all Structural Fund programming.
The first Sándor Végh International String Quartet Competition starts on June 4 in Budapest. The event is an important part of a series of commemorations this year to mark the 100th anniversary of the birth of the world-famous violinist, chamber musician and conductor Sándor Végh, who was one of the internationally best-known Hungarian musicians of the 20th century.

On 17 May, Deputy Minister of State for Church, Civil Society and Nationality Affairs Csaba Latorcai had talks in Nagyvárad/ Oradea with the German Minister of the Interior Christoph Bergner. Both sides agreed that Germans in Hungary play an essential, bridge-building role in relations between the two countries.
After several months of specialist and public consultations, at its meeting on Wednesday the Government adopted the National Core Curriculum, which is planned to take effect in 2013. The new Curriculum is the work of 150 specialists, including academics and teachers. Its adoption was announced by the new Minister for Human Resources, Zoltán Balog, and Minister of State for Education, Rózsa Hoffmann.
The new National Core Curriculum (NAT) was accepted by the Government. Praising the new document the Minister of Social Resources said: „It can be a cohesion to our nation.”

2012 is the European year for Active Ageing and Solidarity between Generations in the European Union. This term refers to a social and individual practice whereby quality of life in old age can be improved. This does not only include economic activity and staying in the labour market but also active participation in social, cultural and civil life, as well as social reintegration.
Besides the slow increase in illicit drug use, the consumption of designer drugs dramatically increased in Hungary between 2009 and 2011. These psychoactive substances with more or less unpredictable effects are spreading apace especially among the youth. Due to their rapidly changing composition, prohibiting and penalizing them presented serious problems. The Government has implemented new instruments against the distribution of drugs, and the early results have already been achieved.
