Minister Balog met with Canadian Minister for Citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturalism

Following a meeting with Canada’s Minister of Citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturalism Jason Kenney, Minister of Human Resources Zoltán Balog stated that no mass return of the Roma is to be expected from Canada. He added that thanks to Canada tightening its immigration policy it is not worth abusing the country’s refugee system for financial gain anymore.
State officials on the Budapest Marathon

The Minister of Human Resources and state secretaries participated in the Budapest Marathon relay race. Every member of the group completed the run partnering a runner living with disabilities (people with impaired vision or physical disabilities). The number of participants was 19,200, compared to the previous record of 17,700.

One thousand Roma women may receive vocational training and employment within the social welfare system

Minister of Human Resources Zoltán Balog announced at a press conference that one thousand Roma women may receive vocational training and then a suitable job in the social and child welfare system within the framework of the EU-financed program launched by the Ministry of Human Resources and National Roma Council. The Ministry and the Roma organisation expect that the women will play a significant role in coordinating between the Roma communities and social institutions.

The government aims to increase the number of Hungarian citizens practicing sports for at least 30 minutes twice a week from 9-20 percent within five years and to 30-35 percent within ten years, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán said at the ceremony to mark the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Budafok Workers Physical Training Association (BMTE), stressing that the government will elaborate the new support scheme for non-spectator team sports as early as this autumn.

With a budget of some 80 million HUF, the „Road to higher education” subprogram has come to existence within the framework of the „For the road” scholarship program. The goal of the subprogram, launched by the Human Resources Support Management Office on behalf of the Ministry of Human Resources, is to improve the equal opportunities of students with disadvantages and multiple disadvantages in higher education by helping their gain their diplomas through providing support in the form of a grant and towards their tuition fees.

Minister of Human Resources Zoltán Balog held a speech about the relationship between employment policy and the National Social Inclusion Strategy. Among the work programs dedicated to increasing employment, he highlighted the Start work program stating that 200 thousands people are already working within its framework in Hungary. He declared that it is very important that the state should provide work opportunities when the economy does not have the capacity to do so.

The ‘Employment of Roma people in the public sector and jurisdiction’ program aims to boost the integration process by enabling more Roma people to be involved in the control of public affairs and in generally the public sector than nowadays. The project addresses the employment of Roma people with higher education degree, having taken the examination as civil servants and judicial staff by paying full wage cost for 12 months including contributions prescribed by law.

Hungary will host the 6th World Congress of Finno-Ugric Peoples in Siófok between 5 and 7 September. The event aims to strengthen cultural, economic and political ties between Finno-Ugric countries and communities. For the first time this year, the Congress will also host an economic forum.
