On June 22 the personnel of the United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus (UNFICYP) lined up for a medal parade. Eighteen Hungarian and six Serbian troops received UN peacekeeping medals in recognition of their tour of duty and of promoting the esprit de corps in the mission.
A ceremony to mark the handover of the position of EUFOR Deputy Commander/Chief of Staff (DCOM/COS) and the responsibilities of the Hungarian Senior National Representative (SNR) took place on Tuesday, June 28 in Camp Butmir, Sarajevo. The event marked the formal transfer of authority (TOA) from Brig.-Gen. Tibor Nagy – who has served as DCOM/COS for 17 months – to Brig.-Gen. Zoltán Gulyás. Maj.-Gen. József Kovács, Commander, Hungarian Defence Forces Joint Force Command (HDF JFC) also attended the ceremony.
At their meeting held in the Ministry of Defence, MoD Parliamentary State Secretary Dr. István Simicskó and Brig-Gen. Deborah A. Ashenhurst, Adjutant General, Ohio National Guard discussed Hungary’s role in ISAF, Afghanistan, the volunteer reserve system and the possibilities for sharing the lessons learned in the field of disaster relief.
The Hungarian Ministry of Defence and the Zrínyi Miklós National Defence University, in co-operation with the European Security and Defence College organised the 4th module of the 6th ESDC High Level Course, on 6-10 June 2011 in Budapest. The module was opened by the Minister of Defence, Csaba Hende.
At his press conference held on Thursday, June 2 in Hotel Hadik, Budapest, Defence Minister Dr. Csaba Hende summarized and evaluated the last one year of the HDF leadership. The Defence Minister gave a detailed account of corrupt practices in the MoD prior to the change of government, which were revealed after the new leadership had taken office, and listed the most important achievements and future objectives.
One of the armoured vehicles of the Hungarian Defence Forces Provincial Reconstruction Team (HDF PRT) overturned in Afghanistan yesterday. Due to the accident two Hungarian soldiers lost their lives and four were injured. (Press release)
