Hungarian soldiers have been serving at Shindand Air Base, Afghanistan since August 2011. Drawn from the personnel of the HDF 86th Szolnok Helicopter Base, the rotations of the Mi–17 Air Advisory Team (AAT) train and mentor the helicopter pilots, flight engineers, door gunners and ground crews of the Afghan Air Force in four-month cycles.
The contingent of the Hungarian Defence Forces serving at Shindand Air Base in Herat Province, Afghanistan, has been performing its duties professionally since August 2011. The Hungarian soldiers completing their tour of duty were bidden farewell at a medal parade in Mazar-e Sharif, Afghanistan. Over the last more than six months, most soldiers serving in individual positions have worked in an international environment rather than with Hungarian colleagues.

Ramadan has started in Afghanistan. The faithful abstain from eating, drinking, smoking, cleaning, sex and violence from dawn to dusk. Ramadan – one of the five pillars of Islam – is obligatory for all Muslims. This year, it is from July 10 to August 9.

The Afghan “Women’s Bazaar” was held at Kabul International Airport (KAIA) in June too. This event is special because the members of women’s development organizations sell their handicraft at the ISAF side of the airport.
