The Practical Flight Training of the New Afghan Group Started at Shindand Air Base

The Afghan helicopter pilot students began their practical flight training with the Mi-17 helicopter in early November at the Shindand Air Base. They carried out their first flights together with the instructors of the seventh rotation of the HDF Mi-17 Air Advisory Team (AAT-7). Soon, new aircrew members, flight technicians and riflemen will increase the Afghan Air Force strength. Nevertheless, the young candidates will have to complete several flights and other type of tasks until graduation.

On October 1, the second rotation of the HDF Kabul International Airport Force Protection Contingent (HDF KAIA FPC) terminated the protection of “Afghanistan’s gate”. At the farewell ceremony the Hungarian service members, who had performed excellently during their tour of duty abroad received international awards, and the foreign soldiers having co-operated with the Contingent got Hungarian honours.

The distributed aid packages – which included flour, rice, sugar, salt and cooking-oil – cover the monthly staple food needs of an average family.

The work done by the movement specialists and logistic squad of the HDF National Support Element required several months of physical and mental preparatory activities. During this period, they transported back to Hungary the materiel of the HDF Provincial Reconstruction Team, which had been withdrawn from the Afghanistan area of operations in March.

Mónika Finds a New Home

Mónika, the Afghan stray dog has a new master. As a puppy, in 2010 she joined a Hungarian military patrol in Afghanistan. The soldiers took the friendly and faithful dog with them to the camp, where the Hungarian and American troops kept her as “watchdog and soulmate” for years. The dog was “discharged” this June, and a great many people volunteered to adopt her, so it was really difficult to choose the suitable candidate from among the numerous dog-lovers.
