Hungarian low-cost airline WizzAir will launch a flight between Budapest and Kutaisi, Georgia, beginning in September, WizzAir CEO József Váradi and State Secretary for Foreign Affairs and External Economic Relations Péter Szijjártó announced on Wednesday.

The State Secretary said that WizzAir’s „Go East” strategy and the Government’s Opening towards the East Policy reinforce both each other and the Hungarian economy, noting that Georgia is Hungary’s second most significant trading partner in the Caucasus region.

Bilateral trade reached USD 50 million in 2013, which represents an 8 percent increase, while Hungarian exports to Georgia increased by 7 percent.

He added that the Kutaisi airport was opened in 2012, and Hungarian companies were also involved in its construction.
