The new Land Act retrieves the land appropriated by illegal pocket contracts, protects the agricultural land from speculators and bankers and puts a limit to large estates, said Prime Minister Viktor Orbán on Saturday, at the congress of the National Association of Hungarian Farmers’ Societies’ (MAGOSZ) young farmer section in Cegléd.
The new legislation, already submitted to Parliament, will create a modern agriculture and will lead to reforms that have not been seen in the last 50-100 years, said the Prime Minister.
With regard to land acquisition by foreigners, the Prime Minister emphasized that the government will apply the same mechanisms as France and Austria. Among the goals of the Land Act he mentioned the recuperation of land illegally appropriated by foreigners through so called ’pocket contracts’, which will be eliminated retrospectively, as well as the protection of lands from speculation and the strengthening of medium landowners.
