Prime Minister Viktor Orbán informed Tamás Fellegi that he would initiate his release from his mandate as Minister Without Portfolio with the President of the Republic effective as of 1 June 2012.

At the same time, the Prime Minister requested Tamás Fellegi to use his extensive networks in the international business and political community in the capacity of advisor to the Prime Minister in the future for the advancement of Hungary. In consequence of the organisational changes at the Prime Minister’s Office, three state secretaries will work at the Prime Minister’s Office as of June.

Background

In his letter sent to Viktor Orbán, Minister Without Portfolio Tamás Fellegi summarised the work completed and the results achieved in the past two years. He stressed, “last December, I agreed to supervise and coordinate the consultations and efforts that served to induce the commencement of the negotiations as a member of the Cabinet. I believe I have fully and successfully discharged this duty. Following the removal of technical obstacles, official negotiations may now commence which will be about the details of our macro-economic and fiscal policy.”

The Minister requested the Prime Minister to “regard the work that I have undertaken as fully discharged and initiate my release from my present mandate with the President of the Republic effective as of 15 May 2012. I wish to return to international business and to continue to pursue the career that has given me so much pleasure and success in the past almost twenty years.”

In his reply, Viktor Orbán thanked the Minister also on behalf of the citizens of the country and congratulated him on a job successfully brought to completion. He highlighted, “you were compelled to do your job amidst waves of speculation launched against the country, political and media attacks and international political attempts that were designed to restrict the country’s sovereignty. You performed this job with exemplary calm and composure. It is primarily you and your colleagues that we may be grateful to for the successful removal of all obstacles, against the intentions of major opposition forces in this difficult situation, to the international financial negotiations that are so important for Hungary. (…) At the same time, allow me to ask you to continue our successful cooperation for almost three decades also in the future. I would like you to assist my work in the capacity of advisor in the area of international financial and business relations. Please continue to use your extensive network in international business and politics for Hungary’s success and advancement.”
