The Commission will operate from January 1, 2013 until December 31, 2013, and will recommend events and informative programmes related to the 70th anniversary of Jewish deportation. Furthermore, the Memorial Commission expresses its opinion, coordinates these programs and prepares for decision making in relation to the use of public funds set aside for these purposes.

According to the resolution proposed by Prime Minister Viktor Orbán and approved by the Government, the Commission will initiate the steps required for the realization of programmes, harmonise the implementation of tasks and also, in conjunction with the Minister involved, prepare and submit plans for decisions relating to the disbursement of public monies and will present decision proposals to the Government. 

The head of the Commission is State Secretary in charge of the Prime Minister’s Office János Lázár and its permanent members are delegates from the Ministry of Interior, the Ministry of Public Administration and Justice, the Ministry of Human Resources, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Defence as well as State Secretary for Social Relations Zoltán Kovács.

The Government of Hungary requests the leaders of the Jewish Heritage of Hungary Public Endowment (MAZSÖK), the Federation of Hungarian Jewish Communities (MAZSIHISZ), the Unified Hungarian Jewish Congregation (EMIH), the Autonomous Orthodox Jewish Community of Hungary, the Hungarian Jewish Cultural Association (MAZSIKE) and the National Association of Former Labour Battalion Conscripts (MUSZOE), the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, the President of the Board of Trustees of the "March of the Living' Foundation and the Director of the Holocaust Memorial Centre to participate in the work of the Memorial Committee.

The document also declares that the Ambassador of the State of Israel to Hungary, the Ambassador of the United States of America to Hungary and the Ambassador of Germany to Hungary will be permanent participants, and the Committee may decide on the invitation of further members.
