Hungary’s State Secretary for Foreign Affairs and External Economic Relations Péter Szijjártó held talks with the deputy heads of ALCOA and GE in Budapest on Monday. These companies are the two leading investors from the United States and strategic partners of the Hungarian Government.

Mr Szijjártó discussed with ALCOA’s global Vice President Daniel Cruise the future prospects of the aluminium industry in the global economy, as well as the company’s role and further plans in Hungary. They also discussed anticipated policy shifts in Europe’s heavy industry sector.

He reviewed with Deputy CEO of General Electric Ron Wilson the developments in the European lighting industry with special focus on LED light production and related R&D. In that context they also discussed GE’s development plans in Hungary and the possible forms of a related government partnership. GE is the largest, while ALCOA the second largest American investor in Hungary.
