Legendary Golden Team football player Sándor Kocsis will be reburied in the Saint Stephen's Basilica, Budapest. His ashes will be laid to rest next to those of his team-mate Ferenc Puskás.
The reburial ceremony begins at 12 pm and will also be attended by János Áder, President of the Republic of Hungary. Speeches will be delivered by Head of the Golden Team Foundation Lajos Kű and Deputy Head of the Hungarian Football Association Sándor Berzi followed by a performance by violinist Zoltán Mága. President of FC Barcelona Sandro Rossel, former team-mate of Kocsis Luis Suárez and goalkeeper of the Golden Team Gyula Grosics will also be present. The event will be concluded with a speech by Sándor Kocsis Jr.
Kocsis played for Ferencváros TC and Budapest Honvéd in Hungary, then after the 1956 Hungarian revolution he moved abroad and played at Young Fellows Zürich for a short period, before becoming a determinative player at FC Barcelona. As a member of the Hungarian national team, he was Olympic Champion in 1952 and World Cup runner-up in 1954.
On the occasion of the reburial, a commemorative book about the great striker written by Oszkár Schlegel will be reissued.
