The Government's public employment program is a gateway to the world of work, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán said in Vásárosnamény, at the opening of a new 1.8 billion forint (EUR 5.8m) data processing centre. He also stated that public workers must be supported and thanked for accepting the opportunity to "work rather than live off benefits".
The data centre offers 291 new jobs and so far has received 947 job applications, including 235 registered job-seekers, the Prime Minister pointed out. This could serve as an excellent example of how people can move on from the world of public work into the world of full-time jobs, he stated. He also warned that public employment programs and those participating in them should not be looked down upon, because anyone who degrades public work also degrades the dignity of those participating in the program.
Prime Minister Orbán said that if his government is re-elected in April, opportunities will be available to everyone who wants to work and not live off benefits, whether they are provided by the state, the economy, or the government via fostered jobs schemes.
National Police Chief Károly Papp also addressed the event, emphasising that by introducing the concept of objective responsibility to ensure strict compliance to traffic regulations, the police have achieved significant results in reducing the number of road traffic accidents. This effort was recognised by the European Transport Safety Council (ETSC) in 2012, when Hungary was awarded the Road Safety PIN Award.
