On the occasion of the Jewish New Year, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán addressed the Jewish community. The 5773rd Jewish New Year – Rosh Hashanah in Hebrew – began at the end of last week.

In his letter, the Prime Minister assured the Jewish community in the name of the Hungarian Government that each and every national, ethnic and religious minority is respected and honoured. He added that the state is doing everything in its power so that the Jewish community may celebrate in peace and dignity.

Prime Minister Viktor Orbán stated that he is confident that he may count on the Hungarian Jewish community in the spiritual and mental renewal of the country.

The Hungarian Government is strongly committed to the fight against anti-Semitism, anti-Roma attitudes and all possible forms of racism, incitement of hatred and social exclusion and is doing everything in its power to eliminate such activities. Referring to this commitment, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán emphasized recently in an interview given to a German magazine that his standpoint is clear: zero tolerance against anti-Semitism and anti-Roma attitudes.
