The Prime Minister and the Minister of National Economy will discuss further possible measures to ensure the budget deficit target is maintained, Government Spokesperson András Giró-Szász said on Thursday. According to plans, the meeting will take place on Friday.

A letter containing measures to further reduce Hungary's budget deficit has been sent to the European Commission, including a proposal for possible tax hikes, the Prime Minister told a press conference on Wednesday after the latest European Council meeting in Brussels.

He stated then that "The question is whether we should take any steps just to make sure [the deficit target is met]." "If the rules of mathematics still mean anything," Hungary should exit the excessive deficit procedure launched against it, he emphasised.
