Prime Minister Viktor Orbán met with Minister of Foreign Affairs of Romania Titus Corlatean on Monday, 1 October. Hungarian Foreign Minister János Martonyi, State Secretary for Foreign Affairs and External Economic Relations Péter Szijjártó and the Ambassador of Romania were also present at the meeting.

The Romanian party thanked Hungary for its continuous support for Romania’s Schengen accession. Both countries’ representatives expressed their intent to represent their interests in strong cooperation, especially regarding the Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF), the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) and Cohesion Funds.

They stated that Central Europe’s energy security is in the strategic interest of both Hungary and Romania, therefore they both wish for swift progress in the AGRI and the Nabucco pipeline projects. The Hungarian party called for the opening of the border between the two countries in order to ensure that the closely interconnected border economic regions should once again begin to successfully operate.
