Hungary's State Secretary for Foreign Affairs and External Economic Relations Péter Szijjártó, met Serbian railways' managing director Dragoljub Simonovic on Friday to discuss the renovation of the Budapest-Belgrade railway line, the state secretary’s press chief said.
Judit Fülöp recalled that Prime Minister Viktor Orbán had recently held talks with Chinese Prime Minister Li Keqiang and Serbian counterpart Ivica Dacic at a Central and Eastern Europe-China summit in Bucharest last week and they discussed the modernisation of railway links between the two capitals. Consultations have started on financing plans to speed up passenger and freight transport, and on participation in these projects, she added.
Péter Szijjártó said that a working team has been set up by members of the Serbian and Hungarian railway companies to prepare the project, and Chinese delegates will join the team at a later stage. The project will contribute to achieving Hungary's strategic goal of becoming a transit country for eastern products transported to western Europe.
