Prime Minister Viktor Orbán inaugurates new biomass power generation units at the Hungrana Kft. plant in Szabadegyháza.

Hungrana’s plant, as one of the oldest units of Hungarian industry, is celebrating its one hundredth year. At the ceremony held in the factory, Viktor Orbán stressed, one of the greatest burdens of the Hungarian economy is its dependence on imported energy. Consequently, a project as part of which a business attempts to meet its power supply needs from domestic, renewable energy resources is important also from this point of view.

Our natural treasures, water supplies and agricultural features represent major resources for Hungary, the Prime Minister highlighted, and emphasised that biomass, one of the most accessible renewable energy resources, is based just on these. Therefore, biomass is useful not only as a source of energy but also offers agricultural advantages and benefits in our rural strategy.

Hungrana also lays particular emphasis on environmental-friendly operations; the biomass boiler project now completed, which is worth some HUF 3 billion and will cover one third of the company’s energy needs, testifies to this commitment. The company will use energy plants to fuel the boilers such as energy-reed which can also be grown in areas such as the region afflicted by the red sludge disaster.
