„The greatest tragedy is that a person died” – Minister of State heading the Prime Minister’s Office János Lázár stated in regard to his road accident on Wednesday morning. He said that he cannot express the degree of compassion and sympathy that would properly reflect his feelings. He will visit the family and help them as much as possible.
The accident occurred on the M5 motorway near Kecskemét, central Hungary, at 6:40 am between the 107 and 108 kilometre markers, when the Minister of State’s minibus collided with a Ford Fiesta. As a result, the driver of the Ford Fiesta, a woman, died immediately. Minister of State Lázár and his driver suffered minor injuries.
Talking about the accident, the Minister of State said that he was heading from his home in Hódmezővásárhely to Budapest for a 9:00 am cabinet meeting. He was sitting in the back of the minibus wearing his seatbelt; his driver has been working for him for several years and is an excellent driver, he added.
The Minister of State said that he was reading, working on a cabinet document, when near Kecskemét the driver shouted that there is a car in the middle of the road. By the time he looked up they had collided with the vehicle and the minibus ended up in the ditch. He added that they do not know how the car came to be in the middle of the road and it is the task of the police to investigate. Following the accident, both the Minister of State and his driver got out to see if they could help the passengers of the other car, he said.
An ambulance later transported him and his driver to hospital where the Minister of State’s and his driver’s alcohol level were also checked; the result of both tests was zero.
