János Lázár, Minister of State for the Prime Minister’s Office, declared at a press briefing in Budapest that the revealing work of calling to account relating to the ruling on the period between 2002 and 2010 has been closed successfully.
He emphasized that the remaining work of impeachment is the responsibility of the police, the prosecution office and the courts, since the government is based on the rule of law, adding that only the courts may deal with jurisdiction, since only they have the rights and obligations to do so.
At the press briefing, Gyula Budai – Governmental Official for Accountability – stated that his office had investigated 1442 cases between November 2010 and August 2012, making 110 open reports, and prosecuting 61 cases (30 cases in the investigation phase, impeachment in 7 cases). 47 people were accused and 39 were impeached during the course of the investigation.
