The first meeting of the Hungarian-Georgian joint economic committee took place in Budapest on Tuesday. Agreements to increase bilateral cooperation in the areas of energy, water management and agriculture were concluded, State Secretary for Foreign Affairs and External Economic Relations Péter Szijjártó said. Bilateral trade between Hungary and Georgia rose by an annual 7% to USD 40 million in the first nine months of the year.

Mr Szijjártó also held talks with Mikheil Janelidze, Georgia's deputy minister of the economy and sustainable development and it was agreed that Hungary would promote the implementation of the European Union Association Agreement that Georgia signed at the EU Eastern Partnership Summit in November with a view to supporting the country's European integration.
