Former German Chancellor Helmut Kohl has assured Prime Minister Viktor Orbán and his Fidesz party of his support on the occasion of the 6 April general elections.
"In a few days' time, on 6 April, parliamentary election will be held in your country, and it will be decided who will govern Hungary as prime minister. I wish to take this opportunity to assure you and your party, Fidesz, of my full support," Mr. Kohl said in a letter sent to Viktor Orbán, which is accessible at this link.
Today's uncertainty and the Ukrainian crisis have again made it clear how important stability is in every European country and the whole of Europe, the letter continues.
The former Chancellor said the current challenges confirm that Europe "is our destiny, and this primarily remains a question of war and peace".
"It is frightening that a crisis is needed again and again to make us aware of the extraordinary importance of the united Europe for all of us", Mr. Kohl said in his letter.
The former Chancellor concluded his letter: "In the spirit of this and German-Hungarian friendship, please accept my best wishes for the upcoming elections, my dear Friend."
