„We understand the bitterness and frustration of the German Social Democrats with regard to the EP elections, but this bitterness and frustration does not give them the right to behave in this manner in relation any citizen or democratic organisation of the EU”, Government Spokesperson András Giró-Szász said in reaction to the comments made by the President of the German Social Democratic Party (SPD).

Sigmar Gabriel had previously stated that “the conservatives must make it clear that anti-European and right-wing populist parties such as Fidesz and Forza Italia have no place within the European People’s Party”.

In his reaction, made in reply to a question from Hungarian news agency MTI, Mr. Giró-Szász explained: “More respect for the Hungarians! This is what we expect from the European socialists, including the German socialists.”
