The Government Spokesperson told this morning’s press conference that it has become clear by today that Hungary is currently facing a historical flood, and accordingly, the Government had developed defence measures in preparation for the worst-case scenario.
The Spokesperson also reiterated that an ever greater solidarity and pooling of efforts is needed, but authorities in the areas affected are prepared to handle the situation appropriately. Emergency protective measures are being implemented along 191 kilometres in Győr-Moson-Sopron, Komárom-Esztergom and Pest counties, as well as in some areas of Budapest. Also in these counties, 554 people have already been evacuated, he announced.
Miklós Soltész, State Secretary for Social, Family, and Youth Affairs of the Ministry for National Resources, announced that one of the first decisions of the National Humanitarian Coordination Council created to coordinate the work of organisations engaged in flood defence operations was to launch a fundraising account number to which donations can be sent to help those affected by the flooding.
