10 years after submitting its request for EU accession, Croatia has become the 28th member of the European Union.
On the occasion of Croatian EU accession, celebrations were held all over the country. The main celebration was organised in the capital, Zagreb, with the participation of 170 leading foreign politicians including Prime Minister Viktor Orbán. Leaders of the European Union were also present including the President of the European Commission José Manuel Barroso as well as President of the European Council Herman von Rompuy.
Beside the EU leaders, Croatian President Ivo Josipovic and Croatian Prime Minister Zoran Milanovic held celebratory speeches.
In parallel with the Croatian EU accession, Lithuania took over the EU Presidency from Ireland.
