This year, Hungarian agriculture and the Hungarian food industry are producing perhaps the most favourable export surplus since Hungary joined the European Union – said the State Secretary for Agricultural Economy of the Ministry of Rural Development on Saturday in Békéscsaba.
On Wednesday, September 28 in the joint organisation of the Ministry of Defence and the Honvéd Re-enactment Association (HOHE) the one-time students commemorated the 70th anniversary of the establishment of the six Cadet Schools operating from 1941 until 1945 in the Banquet Hall of the Zrínyi Miklós National Defence University (ZMNE). The wife of the President of the Republic Katalin Schmittné Makray, Dr. István Simicskó, the MoD Parliamentary State Secretary and the former Prime Minister Dr. Péter Boross were also present at the event.

The programme of this year's National Agriculture and Food Exhibition (OMÉK), including amongst others livestock shows, presentations by various food industry businesses, and professional forums, has shown that Hungarian agriculture and the Hungarian food industry has moved in the direction of quality production and the greatest possible added value – said Minister for Rural Development Sándor Fazekas on Sunday, during the presentation of the OMÉK's Special Ministerial Award and People's Choice Award.
The Ministry of Rural Development organised a debate on the role of genetically modified organisms (GMOs) in agriculture, held at the 75th National Agriculture and Food Exhibition (OMÉK). Present at the event, which drew great interest, were representatives from the field of science, agricultural government and farmers' organisations, with the aim of voicing their opinions and putting forward their substantive arguments on genetically manipulated agricultural products at an open podium discussion.
On the proposal of Catherine Ashton, the High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Member States made the decision to appoint Prison Service Brigadier General dr. László Huszár as Head of the crisis management mission (EUJUST LEX Iraq) that helps to develop the capabilities of the Iraqi administrative management of law enforcement and judicial systems. The Hungarian Head of the mission will take his duty station in Baghdad soon – joint bulletin of the Ministry of Interior and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs says.
We must not allow arable land to be used as our predecessors have done so during previous years – announced Parliamentary State Secretary of the Ministry of Rural Development József Ángyán on the Land and Estate Policy Forum organised within the framework of the 75th National Agriculture and Food Exhibition (OMÉK).

In the words of the event's chief patron, Viktor Orbán: "Agriculture is a vital take-off point for our nation."
The 75th jubilee National Agriculture and Food Exhibition (OMÉK) was home to the "Carpathian Basin Rural Development Co-operations" Forum, part of the National Rural Strategy – 2020 series of consultations.
