The week-long Sziget Festival staged its closing events on Sunday.It attracted approximately 380 000 visitors in its 20th jubilee year, with 50 percent of these coming from outside Hungary. In addition to the numerous music events, the festival hosted a number of government organisations at its ‘Civil Village’.
New Zealand’s Prime Minister John Key criticised the Hungarian troops this week, saying that they refused to patrol after dark in Baghlan, the province under Hungarian control, and their reluctance had led to an increase in insurgent activity in the area. Referring to the critics the Ministry of Defense (MoD) in Hungary issued a statement that the Hungarian-led Provincial Reconstruction Team (PRT) had met the International Security Assistance Force requirements and performed its mission at a high standard.

According to the latest Hungarian data published by the Hungarian Central Statistical Office (KSH), in the country the number of employed in the second quarter of 2012 averaged 3 million 876 thousand which has been the best figure of the past couple of years. On 4-5 October 2012 the Hungarian capital will host the first follow-up conference to the 2011 London Conference on Cyberspace. The event, taking place in the heart of Budapest, will gather together nearly 600 representatives from government, the private sector, civil society and the scientific community, as well as around 100 international journalists.
In July the surplus of the central subsystem in the state budget was 80.2 billion forints. The Government is promoting the Hungarian – Italian Cultural Season 2013 (which starts on 1 January) by setting up a Hungarian – Italian tent at the Sziget Festival. The slogan of the 2013 event series – which aims to strengthen diplomatic and cultural relations between the two nations – is Találkozások/Incontri (‘Meetings’). Visitors to the festival can meet Hungarian and Italian celebrities in the tent, as a symbol of the friendship between the two countries.
The week-long 29th International Summer Camp for Disabled Youth opened in Balatonföldvár on Sunday. Its aim is to help dismantle invisible walls between those living with disability and the rest of society.
