Number of Hungarian-Slovakian border crossings to double

Continued Improvement in Employment Trends

In the second half of 2010, the downward employment trend was reversed and since then the number of people in employment has been steadily on the rise on a year-on-year basis. The latest statistics also underpin this positive tendency. The latest flash report from the Hungarian Central Statistical Office (KSH) reveals that in the period May-July 2013 the number of people aged 15-74 years in employment was up by 56 thousand, to 3 million 964 thousand compared to the same period of 2012, which constitutes an increase of 1.4 percent year-on-year. Thus the employment rate edged up to 51.9 percent, the best figure since 1998. The number of economically active people has also risen to a peak of 4 million 409 thousand, a level also last seen in 1998.

One of Europe's most modern wild game processing plants opens in Tata

Fiwi-Hűt Ltd has opened a one-billion-forint (3 million Euro) wild game meat processing plant and cold storage unit in Tata's Industrial Park. In his opening speech, Deputy State Secretary for Food Chain Supervision and Agricultural Economy Lajos Bognár emphasised the importance of game meat exports, adding that some 300 thousand large game and 700 thousand small game are dropped each year in Hungary, with 11 thousand tons of game meat reaching the market during the last game management year.

Confucius Institute opens in Miskolc

State Secretary for External Economic Relations and Foreign Affairs Péter Szijjártó signed an agreement in the Parliament building on Friday on opening a Confucius Institute in Miskolc. The State Secretary emphasised: the Institute has been established through the cooperation of the University of Miskolc, the Beijing University of Chemical Technology and the Chinese Language Council. The Institute will play an important economic role in the life of Miskolc and act as a bridge between the two countries within the field of strategic cooperation.
