Foreign Minister János Martonyi met with Israeli Finance Minister Yair Lapid on Friday and discussed bilateral and Trans-Atlantic economic links as well as the Middle East peace process.
The Foreign Ministers of the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia emphasize the importance of developing strong ties between the EU and the Eastern Partnership countries, which is essential for stability and prosperity on the European continent. The Ministers express their appreciation of the determination of those Eastern Partnership countries – Georgia, the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine – which, despite some internal challenges, are progressing in the process of implementing political, social and economic reforms. The pace of reforms determines the intensity of cooperation, therefore partners most engaged in reforms benefit more from their relationship with the EU, in line with the “more for more” principle. They welcome the European choice and aspirations of these countries.
On Wednesday, automotive components manufacturer Delphi inaugurated its 8000 square meter new production hall, which will double the company’s Tatabánya unit’s production and will create a hundred new jobs. The expansion is worth HUF 3.4 billion (EUR 11.3 million) of which HUF 686 million (EUR 2.3 million) was provided from non-repayable Hungarian and EU funds.
The Hungarian Government, as the largest owner of Croatia’s most significant foreign investor, MOL, reviewed at its cabinet meeting the situation that has evolved in relation to the company’s Croatian investments. According to the contract between the State of Croatia and MOL, the company has fulfilled its responsibilities in full and in the past years has invested nearly EUR 3 billion. In contrast to this, the Croatian party has failed to or has only partly fulfilled its responsibilities.
Central and Eastern Europe -- including Hungary -- has in recent years become Europe’s industrial heartland, and chances are good for the region to turn into the growth engine of the continent, Minister of State Zoltán Cséfalvay of the Ministry for National Economy said at the Hungarian Business Leaders Forum in Budapest. The Minister of State underlined that in order to achieve this goal Hungary shall reconsider its economic strengths and join the global product- and value-chains increasingly with products and services of high added value.

Hungary was the first country to simultaneously ratify the United Nation’s Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) and the related Optional Protocol. Thanks to this, we were the first country in which both individuals and civil organisations also have right to submit a complaint within the framework of the individual procedure set out in the CPRD’s Optional Protocol.
In July 2013, the volume of exports and imports increased by 7.4 percent and 6.4 percent, respectively, compared to the corresponding period of the previous year, thus foreign trade posted a surplus of EUR 448 million in the seventh month of the year. As a result of the Government’s investor-friendly economic policy, recently implemented large investment projects are expected to generate a foreign trade surplus for the entire year of 2013 which will exceed last year’s figure.

Hungary supports efforts to make water management and sanitation priorities among United Nations development goals in the post-2015 period, Minister of Foreign Affairs János Martonyi said at the UN General Assembly session in New York.
