The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Hungary has learnt with deep sorrow about the recent death of Mrs Laura Pollán, founding member of the Cuban human rights activist movement ’Ladies in White’ (Dama de Blanco). In Q3 2011, demand on short term government securities declined, while that on goverment bonds usually increased. Average bid-to-cover ratios on the auctions of short term instruments in the period were between 2.1 and 2.6, while there was a more significant coverage of bonds between 3.2 and 3.5 (except for the one auction of the 15-year bond which had poor cover ratio). Bid-to-cover ratios of the T-Bills, the 5 and 15-year bonds fell remarkably, of three-month T-Bills slightly, while that of the rest of bonds increased significantly.

Farmers will receive 280 billion Forints in Single Area Payment Scheme (SAPS) funds for the current year, 50 billion more than last year. The payment of half this sum, around 135 billion Forints, will begin today – stated Sándor Fazekas at the joint press conference of the Ministry of Rural Development and the Agricultural and Rural Development Agency (MVH). Péter Palkovics stressed that payment of special milk support would also begin in December, within the framework of which 2700 milk farmers will receive payments from a fund of 13.5 billion Forints.

The 28th rotation of the Hungarian Defence Forces’ mission in Cyprus (UNFICYP HUNCON) deployed to the area of operations (AO) in September, 2010. The HUNCON personnel were last seen together on the airplane transporting the rotation, since they were performing their tasks during the 12 months of their tour of duty abroad in four different places, mostly serving with multinational units.

The UN Office for Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) organises regional humanitarian outreach forums in Europe since 2009. The aim of these events is to raise awareness on the basics of international humanitarian coordination, to provide general information on the role of OCHA, and to discuss current humanitarian crises and challenges. This year, the forum titled „European Humanitarian Partnership Forum – Responding in a changing world” will be organized 6.10.2011, together with the Hungarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Budapest.
On 4 October Hungary is commemorating the first anniversary of the red sludge disaster. Since the tragedy the Government has completely rebuilt the residential areas and rehabilitated the natural environment, and thanks to exemplary professional and public solidarity, one year on the three stricken settlements are now more in need of spiritual and economic strength than anything else.
