Megafair – Dried Buffalo Meat and Hungarian Marzipan

Some 400 thousand visitors will have the opportunity to taste dried buffalo meat, mango-flavoured beer and Hungarian paprika wine at the world's largest agriculture, food industry and gardening exhibition in Berlin this week. This is the 41st time that Hungary is taking part in the International Green Week (Grüne Woche) exhibition and trade fair, this time with a 500 square metre stand. The agricultural diplomacy events linked to the fair affect some 5 billion people.

In addition, employment trends of women have also turned positive in this period. Yet another favourable development has been that the overall payroll numbers increased in most sectors of the national economy, and within the manufacturing industry – with the exception of the manufacturing of computers, electronic and optical products – statistics indicate improvement in each significant sub sector.

The Government is setting up a workgroup to negotiate with the authorities in Switzerland in order to recover unpaid taxes, Minister of State heading the Prime Minister's Office János Lázár said on Wednesday at a press conference held together with Government Spokesperson András Giró-Szász. According to an analysis prepared by the Ministry of National Economy, the amount of Hungarian income stored in offshore accounts is around HUF 1 trillion, but may even reach HUF 2 trillion (EUR 6.7bn).

Manufacturing industry orders increased significantly despite slight decline in production

As a positive development, the overall number of new orders at manufacturing industry enterprises increased impressively, by 45.7 percent. However, seasonally and workday-adjusted industrial production declined by 0.1 percent in November 2012 compared to the previous month. In comparison to November 2011 both unadjusted and workday-adjusted statistics signal that industrial output decreased by 6.9 percent which figure was also due to a high basis reading. Decrease, however, was even larger in Italy (7.6 percent) and Spain (7.2 percent), and among our regional peers the Czech Republic registered a similar volume decline of 6.2 percent.
