The greatest depositories of Hungarian ecotourism are our national parks, the Ministry of Rural Development's Deputy State Secretary for Environmental Affairs and Conservation declared at the press conference organised to mark the launch of the campaign to promote the country's national parks. At the event, which was held in the Museum of Natural Sciences in Budapest, awards were also presented to the winners of the Magical Hungary photo competition. The Ministry and the organisation are jointly launching a new tender category entitles "Man in Nature".

The EU Environment Ministers have held talks on the proposal that would enable member states to ban the cultivation of GMOs on their territories. Hungary was represented at the talks by Endre Kardeván.
We plan to increase the area of land that is irrigated in Hungarian agriculture, because only around 100 thousand hectares are currently watered by farmers, whereas permission has been granted to water 200 thousand hectares, Zsolt Feldman said on Monday at a press conference at the National Water Directorate.
Within the framework of the National School Fruit Programme, the Government has increased funding from 500 million forints to HUF 1.2bn (EUR 3.9 million) since 2010, making it possible for 538 thousand children to receive at least two different kinds of fruits at least twice a week, compared to the 277 thousand schoolchildren originally covered by the programme, Zsolt Feldman said at a forum organised at the Ministry of Rural Development.
"The Porcine Reproductive and Respiratory Syndrome (PRRS) decontamination of pigs causes no damage to either the country or to farmers, the level of contamination is only 10 percent at even the largest animal husbandry units and contaminated animals are slaughtered in the usual way, there is no forced culling", Endre Kardeván told Hungarian news agency MTI with regard to the fact that in his opinion several pieces of false information had appeared in the media recently with regard to the PRRS decontamination programme.
Russia is expected to lift the ban on the import of Hungarian live pigs, pork meat and pork products in mid-March, Chief Veterinarian Endre Kardeván announced.
