Starting this Monday the Department of Rural Development (VM), the Agricultural Management Office (MgSzH) and the National Consumer Protection Agency (NFH) is conducting a joint food control campaign, lasting up to Easter. Public Announcement.
The experts will be examining food products used mainly during the Easter Holidays, such as ham, eggs and chocholate figures – said Dr. Endre Kardeván during the press conference held at the Central Market Place at Fővám tér.
Any entreprenaur or firm can be fined from 15 000 Forints to 2 Bilion Forints if they violate the rules. However the purpose of these tests is not sanctioning said Mr. Endre Kardeván. According to him Hungary is in the forefront of food safety. While in the member states 5-6 percent of food products violate the rules and result in court cases, in Hungary this rate is only 0,5 percent thanks to the strick regulations and controls.
Dr. Lajos Bognár, president of the MgSzH explained: veterinaries check mostly the quality of ham and meat products or if the curing procedure was indeed performed on them . The experts of the agency take samples that are examined in laboratories.
Besides this, the marking, storage and labelling the eggs’ origin and controlling the quality of the chocholate figures is also an important task. The conference was also attended by Mrs. Csáki - Dr. Gyuris Krisztina, the deputy general-manager of the National Consumer Protection Agency (NFH). She explained that besides quality control the agency also conducts occasional test purchases. During such occasions they also pay special attention to the marked prices, the correct labelling and if the customer gets the mandatory receit in the shops.
