The Rural Development Training and Advisory Institute (Hun: VKSZI) of the Ministry of Rural Development is launching a photo competition entitled "What does Agriculture mean to you?", for adults and young people aged 14 to 18 who live in cities.

The goal of the competition is for young city-dwellers to become aware of the positive effects of the European Union's Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) on Hungarian agriculture and everyday life in the city.

The European Union spends forty-three percent of its budget on financing the CAP, while the proportion of people employed in agriculture is less than six percent. The VKSZI hopes the photo competition will draw attention to the current problems faced by the CAP, boost local tourism at home and restore trust between producers and consumers.

Photos may be submitted in the following categories:

Current Agricultural Challenges

Rural Landscape – Rural Culture

The Perceptible Consequences of Climate Change (storms, floods, drought)

Local Produce, Village Festivals

The Role of Renewable Energy Sources in Sustainable Growth

Three photographs not more than one year old may be uploaded by each participant to the www.kap2011.eu webpage no later than September 15.
